Ahmad Akkad
Dr Ahmad Akkad (PhD, Warwick) is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, leading the Middle East and North Africa component of the International Student Mobility and World Development project. He also serves as a College Advisor at Blackfriars College, Oxford, and is an Associate Editor (ECR) at Higher Education Quarterly.
His PhD explored the lived experiences of displaced Syrian academics, theorizing their contributions to higher education reconstruction and the recovery-development nexus in conflict settings, particularly Syria. Ahmad’s interdisciplinary research spans higher education, education in conflict and reconstruction, academic mobility, and diary methods. He has published in journals such as Teaching in Higher Education (2024), Review of Educational Research (2023), and Oxford Journal of Refugee Studies (2023). Ahmad has taught on the MA Global Education and International Development course at the University of Warwick. He lectured at various universities and higher education institutions in Syria and collaborated with organizations like the Association of Commonwealth Universities and UN-supported NGOs promoting education in conflict-affected regions.
