UK student visa policy since 2009: the impact in UK higher education
- Dominic Scott, UK Council for International Student Affairs
- Jo Attwooll, Universities UK
- Julie Allen, UK Council for International Student Affairs
The three panel members, all closely involved with developments in UK student visa policy – from the introduction of Tier 4 of the Points Based System in 2009 to the recent controversies about graduate work rights and the nesting of students in the net migration target – will reflect on the implications of those developments for education and for the higher education sector, and on what further changes might or should be planned for the future.
Dominic Scott (Chief Executive of the UK Council for International Student Affairs) will outline the twists and turns of policy across the whole education sector. Jo Attwooll (Programme Manager, Universities UK) will discuss the impact of the changes specifically on universities, and UUK’s policy response. Julie Allen (Director Policy and Services at the UK Council for International Student Affairs and formerly Immigration Advisor at LSE) will explain the implications for student advisors working in institutions.
