The EAIE Barometer – Insights into the health and vitality of internationalisation within the EHEA

In March 2024, the European Association for International Education (EAIE) released its eagerly awaited EAIE Barometer, third edition report. With 2817 individual responses from 46 European Higher Education Area (EHEA) countries, the report offers a comprehensive view of the health and vitality of internationalisation in European higher education, from the perspective of frontline professionals engaged in this work, amidst significant challenges and opportunities. Since then, two spin-off reports have been released zooming in on national and European-level influences and perceptions of impact from internationalisation. During this webinar, Barometer authors Laura Rumbley (Director Knowledge Development and Research, EAIE) and Jody Hoekstra-Selten (Knowledge Development Officer, EAIE) will provide key takeaways from the report, as well as highlight interesting differences based on region, role, and type of institution.

Laura E. Rumbley is Director for Knowledge Development and Research at the EAIE. With more than 25 years of experience in the field of international higher education, she has held a variety of different roles, including practitioner, assistant professor, researcher, editor and consultant. Laura holds a PhD from the Center for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College (USA), where her dissertation focused on internationalisation in the universities of Spain. She is the former associate director at CIHE, a former deputy director of the Brussels-based Academic Cooperation Association (ACA), and a former US Foreign Service Officer. From 2014 to 2024, Laura was also a co-editor of the Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE); she now serves on JSIE’s Editorial Advisory Board.
Jody Hoekstra-Selten is Knowledge Development Officer at the EAIE. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Western Literature and Culture and a Research Master’s degree in Literary Studies, both at Utrecht University (NL), she has been working within the field of (international) education policy since 2012. Starting out as Policy Advisor Higher Education at the NRTO (the Dutch Council for Training and Education), she also spent eight years at the British Council in various roles, including Exams Operations Manager and Head of Education for the Netherlands.
