This presentation explores the journey of researchers in International Relations based in India as they transfer the knowledge of their local realities into the global pool of knowledges. In this journey, they engage with coloniality embedded within social sciences that create divisions between universal and particular knowledge. The scholars also navigate through the asymmetries of global science that magnify voices emerging from the global North. In this journey, they engage with the varied local dynamics of knowledge production. Drawn from sixteen in-depth interviews conducted with researchers in India, the presentation offers a novel analysis of the global research landscape from the perspectives of these scholars situated at the ‘borders’ of the system.

Vedika Kedia is a graduate from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi and a recipient of the premier Indian institute’s coveted ‘Best Student Prize’. She has been on year-long exchanges to National University of Singapore, Singapore and Sciences Po, Paris. Vedika pursued her Master in China Studies as a Yenching Academy scholar at Peking University. A Chinese Government Council Scholarship holder, she specialised in Politics and International Relations. Inculcating an interest in educational spaces, she joined the 2022 class of MSc in Education, pathway of Higher Education at the University of Oxford. Drawing from her study in the field of social sciences at six renowned higher educational institutes in varied geographies, she submitted her dissertation on Social Science Research in India and was awarded a ‘Distinction’. Vedika is currently working on CGHE Project 9 : Mapping Supranational Higher Education Space.
