Event Materials

This event is now archived and we are pleased to provide the following event media and assets, along with the original event overview.

Alistair will explore the political and policy developments that have had the greatest impact on universities over the past decade. This period included major challenges for the higher education sector including Brexit, a global pandemic, the birth of a new regulator, eight changes of Higher Education Minister, culture wars and battles over immigration policy – to name just a few.

He will also look ahead to what policy and political developments the sector might expect over the coming years, leading up to and after the next General Election.

His reflections will draw on experiences of working regularly with parliamentarians, civil servants, regulators, media and the leaders of 140 universities to influence policy and support universities to navigate a challenging political landscape. Alistair was a member of the senior team at Universities UK from 2013, serving as Chief Executive from 2017-2022.
