CGHE Webinar 21

Disruptive technology enhanced learning

Date: Thursday, 7 July 2016 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Location: Room 804, UCL Institute of Education
Speaker(s):
  • Michael Flavin, King’s College London

This presentation surveys current and emerging practice in technology enhanced learning in higher education, using ‘disruptive innovation’ as a lens.

Disruptive innovation focuses on simple and convenient technologies which disrupt markets for existing products and services. Dr Flavin argues that disruptive technologies are used frequently in higher education, in preference to institutional technologies.

He argues that practice in technology enhanced learning has implications for the design and use of current and emerging technologies (such as virtual learning environments, and massive open online courses) and current and emerging practices (such as ‘bring your own device’, and learning analytics), as well as having implications for cost structures, and for the future of higher education as a whole.
