Maria Yudkevich was till April 2023 a distinguished professor and head of the Center for Institutional Studies at HSE University, Russia. In 2011-2022 she was a vice-rector for research at HSE. Her research in comparative higher education is focused on the academic profession and includes such topics as academic salaries, university rankings and governance, academic mobility and inbreeding. Maria is a co-editor of the forthcoming 2023 book Academic Star Wars: Excellence Initiatives in Global Perspectives (jointly with Philip Altbach and Jamil Salmi, MIT University Press). She now lives in Israel.
