Liviu Matei is a professor of higher education and public policy, and head of the School of Education, Communication and Society at King’s College London. He taught at universities in Europe, the U.S., and Asia.

Liviu Matei is a professor of higher education and public policy, and head of the School of Education, Communication and Society at King’s College London. He taught at universities in Europe, the U.S., and Asia. He conducted academic as well as applied policy research in many parts of the world. His primary areas of expertise include university governance, academic freedom and university autonomy, funding, internationalization of higher education, and quality assurance. He is the founder of the Global Observatory on Academic Freedom and currently leads a project aiming to design a monitoring mechanism for the fundamental values of higher education in all countries of Europe.
