Welsh Government accepts recommendations by Ellen Hazelkorn

The Welsh Government has accepted the recommendations made by Professor Ellen Hazelkorn in her review into education in Wales.

The review, published in March last year, was commissioned to examine the provision gaps across post-compulsory education and training.

Professor Hazelkorn’s recommendations included the creation of a new body to oversee further and higher education training, to which the Welsh Government has agreed.

Professor Hazelkorn previously told BBC Wales that she saw the new body as having more to do with ‘leading and shaping’ further and higher education rather than just a funding role.

The review emphasised the ways in which education can improve social justice and economic growth. Its recommendations included equal value and support for vocational and academic pathways and an improvement of connections between qualifications and the labour market.
